The principle of national equality is an important principle of the Constitution of China.
National equality means that, regardless of the differences in factors such as population, economy, folkways and customs, and religious belief, all nationalities are part of the Chinese nation, and enjoy equal political and legal status in the national life.
Paragraph 1 of Article 4 of the Constitution provides that: “All nationalities in the People's Republic of China are equal. The state protects the lawful rights and interests of the minority nationalities and upholds and develops a relationship of equality, unity and mutual assistance among all of China's nationalities. Discrimination against and oppression of any nationality are prohibited…...”
